Diamond Electronics

Diamond has often been described as the ultimate electronic material due to its outstanding physical properties such as unrivalled thermal conductivity, extremely large electronic bandgap and very high charge carrier mobility.

Success in the implementation of diamond-based electronics largely relies on the ability to make diamond-based transistors, as the transistor remains a key electronic component in modern day electronics.

Pioneering work in this area is currently underway at the University of Glasgow in a bid to unlock the revolutionary potential of this material system. This research has produced the smallest (shortest device gate length) and fastest (highest fT figure) diamond transistor yet  developed.
